The
Liverpool-based electro-pop quartet Ladytron caused quite a bit of industry
buzz when they released their first single, "He Took Her to a Movie,"
in 1999. Their highly infectious, early '80s inspired sound quickly won over fans
and critics alike, making their 2001 full-length debut, 604, one of the most influential records of the new decade. During
the same year, the band toured extensively throughout Europe and the U.S.
where they sold out venues coast to coast. 2004 saw the release of the much
darker Light & Magic which featured the song
"Seventeen"--now a cult hit. In the summer of 2005, Ladytron released
their third and most mature work, Witching
Hour. This highly atmospheric, experimental LP produced by Jim Abbiss (DJ
Shadow, Placebo, Kasabian) boasts a larger sonic palette than their earlier
work and brilliantly showcases the extent to which the band had honed their
craft up to that point. Highlights from Witching
Hour include "Sugar," "International Dateline,"
"Beauty Two" and "Destroy Everything You Touch."
